Empowering Refugees Through Handicrafts

The Azraq Project is an inspiring model of resilience and innovation, demonstrating how refugees can overcome challenges despite limited resources and opportunities. Held in the Azraq Refugee Camp, this initiative is part of the "Promoting Social and Economic Self-reliance of Syrian Refugees and Affected Host Communities in Jordan" programme, implemented by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA). Supported through the Souq Fann platform, the project trained 20 refugees to develop high-quality handmade products that showcase their skills and creativity

Despite the hardships of displacement and daily struggles, the refugees received intensive training that enabled them to refine their craftsmanship, turning their ideas into exceptional handmade creations that meet the highest standards of quality. Beyond improving product quality, the training also played a crucial role in boosting the refugees' confidence, proving that they can innovate and thrive even in the most difficult circumstances.

The Training Journey and Overcoming Challenges

Over several weeks, refugee participants received both practical and theoretical guidance on crafting handmade products of the highest quality. Despite facing significant challenges—including limited access to raw materials and specialized tools—they demonstrated unwavering dedication and ingenuity.

Every product created in this project tells a powerful story of resilience, effort, and hope. More than just handcrafted items, these creations serve as symbols of the strength and potential within refugee communities.
