With the aim of supporting Syrian women artisans, Souq Fann, in collaboration with Syria Livelihoods Program (SLP), funded by USAID, trained and mentored women artisans in Malikiyah City in Northeast Syria.
Through the training, these women produced intricate designs through which they were able to create a path to a sustainable income and improved livelihood conditions.
These products are a reflection of the hard work and dedication that these women artisans have put into their craft, although they were faced with many challenges including not having money to buy materials or equipment, combined with the horrors of the conflict, they have endured, preserved, and made sure that they reflected that in their products. Out of those ambitions, the "Syrian Touches" brand was born to be a mark of resilience and perseverance of these women.
Through Syrian Touches, we present you with handicrafts made by Syrian women who have turned their hardships into opportunities and their tribulations into triumphs."
The owner of this store is an accessories maker who is driven with a great passion for self-development by her determination and curiosity. She is a very ambitious woman who believes that nothing is impossible; she can create the most beautiful pieces from scratch using very limited resources.
She worked as a tailor during her university years and feels that this craft has been a big part of her personality since she was young. Therefore, she decided to turn this hobby into a source of income to support her family and build her brand identity through it.
This lady uses a variety of materials to make her products distinctive by including colored threads, beads, cones, rings, and other materials. She is keen to make distinguished accessories from completely natural cotton threads so that her products do not cause allergies for those who wear them. Moreover, these accessories and ornaments come in bright colors that evoke joy and happiness with unique designs that reflect the personality of their maker and her delicate sense. They also reflect the authenticity and heritage of her beloved country, Syria. It takes her many hours of hard work to make one piece before it is ready to be worn.
This craftswoman has faced so many challenges and difficulties with regard to sourcing raw materials for her products and finding the best ways to market them, but these challenges did not prevent her from coming up with new ideas and finding alternative raw materials with which to develop her products. She also aspires to have her own workshop in which she can practice her work freely and be a trainer who motivates and guides other people.
