Syrian Touches - S.K

With the aim of supporting Syrian women artisans, Souq Fann, in collaboration with Syria Livelihoods Program (SLP), funded by USAID, trained and mentored women artisans in Malikiyah City in Northeast Syria. 

Through the training, these women produced intricate designs through which they were able to create a path to a sustainable income and improved livelihood conditions. 

These products are a reflection of the hard work and dedication that these women artisans have put into their craft, although they were faced with many challenges including not having money to buy materials or equipment, combined with the horrors of the conflict, they have endured, preserved, and made sure that they reflected that in their products. Out of those ambitions, the "Syrian Touches" brand was born to be a mark of resilience and perseverance of these women. 

Through Syrian Touches, we present you with handicrafts made by Syrian women who have turned their hardships into opportunities and their tribulations into triumphs."

About the Store

One of the ladies at "Syrian Touches" is a craftswoman with many talents and hobbies that range from reading to embroidery, spinning, and knitting. This craftswoman chose crochet as her main craft, specifically knitting crochet bags with unique and distinctive designs. She has been interested in crochet since childhood when she used to see her mother and friends of her mother competing to make different crochet pieces, and later she joined the friendly competition herself.

This creative woman uses colored wool threads and accessories to add a unique touch to her handbags. It takes an average of 5-10 hours of continuous hard work to complete one piece.

This craftswoman enhanced her strengths, and identified and overcame her own perceived weaknesses through hard work, perseverance, training, and mentoring. She has acquired new skills in color mixing and coordination, and today aspires to own a small workshop in which to display her work and earn income to support herself.
