Syrian Touches - S.S

With the aim of supporting Syrian women artisans, Souq Fann, in collaboration with Syria Livelihoods Program (SLP), funded by USAID, trained and mentored women artisans in Malikiyah City in Northeast Syria. 

Through the training, these women produced intricate designs through which they were able to create a path to a sustainable income and improved livelihood conditions. 

These products are a reflection of the hard work and dedication that these women artisans have put into their craft, although they were faced with many challenges including not having money to buy materials or equipment, combined with the horrors of the conflict, they have endured, preserved, and made sure that they reflected that in their products. Out of those ambitions, the "Syrian Touches" brand was born to be a mark of resilience and perseverance of these women. 

Through Syrian Touches, we present you with handicrafts made by Syrian women who have turned their hardships into opportunities and their tribulations into triumphs."

About the Store

One of the "Syrian Touches" creative women is a craftswoman and maker of woolen products. Her interest in wool as a medium for handicrafts began as a child, through watching her aunt spinning and weaving. Her skills gradually developed from emulating her aunt to creating her own unique designs, and she soon aspired to start a business in handicraft production that would generate income for her family.

For this craftswoman, women always have a special interest in the kitchen, and this interest has inspired her pieces. Her decorated dishes give kitchens a unique beauty and contribute to their distinctive aesthetic appearance. She spends around seven hours producing one piece.

She aspires to learn new designs and expand the reach of her products to a wider market, thus indulging her creative side while helping her family and children financially. This gives her the energy and strength to overcome one of her biggest challenges, which is striking a balance between her responsibilities at home, and the craft that she loves.
