Syrian Touches - S.J Story

With the aim of supporting Syrian women artisans, Souq Fann, in collaboration with Syria Livelihoods Program (SLP), funded by USAID, trained and mentored women artisans in Malikiyah City in Northeast Syria.

Through the training, these women produced intricate designs through which they were able to create a path to a sustainable income and improved livelihood conditions.

These products are a reflection of the hard work and dedication that these women artisans have put into their craft, although they were faced with many challenges including not having money to buy materials or equipment, combined with the horrors of the conflict, they have endured, preserved, and made sure that they reflected that in their products. Out of those ambitions, the "Syrian Touches" brand was born to be a mark of resilience and perseverance of these women.

Through Syrian Touches, we present you with handicrafts made by Syrian women who have turned their hardships into opportunities and their tribulations into triumphs."

About the store

One of "Syrian Touches" creative women is a crochet craftswoman and a mother of four. She has been fond of dolls and crochet since she was young, and has sewn dresses and clothes for herself for as long as she can remember. Since her interest developed, she updates herself with all that is trending and fashionable on social media networks.

This craftswoman is keen to choose designs from the world around her that emulate her Arabic heritage. Weaving her designs, Sherine uses a variety of materials including thick and thin wool, and all kinds of colorful threads available to her locally. It takes her about three days to work on one piece, with an average of 7-8 hours per day.

This creative woman works with passion and enthusiasm and she constantly strives to develop her products and her skills in marketing these products. She dreams of opening a clothing store, displaying her own products alongside those of other craftswomen, where artisans can gather, inspire each other and secure a regular income.
