With the aim of supporting Syrian women artisans, Souq Fann, in collaboration with Syria Livelihoods Program (SLP), funded by USAID, trained and mentored women artisans in Malikiyah City in Northeast Syria.
Through the training, these women produced intricate designs through which they were able to create a path to a sustainable income and improved livelihoods conditions.
These products are a reflection of the hard work and dedication that these women artisans have put into their craft, although they were faced with many challenges including not having money to buy materials or equipment, combined with the horrors of the conflict, they have endured, preserved, and made sure that they reflected that in their products. Out of those ambitions, the "Syrian Touches" brand was born to be a mark of resilience and perseverance of these women.
Through Syrian Touches, we present you with handicrafts made by Syrian women who have turned their hardships into opportunities and their tribulations into triumphs."
Sherhan Masto is a ceramics and glass painter. She enjoys spending most of her time in the natural environment, which inspires her to combine nature with her passion for painting. Her skills in painting and drawing were acquired in childhood, and continue to this day. From humble beginnings, drawing on the schoolyard floor and at home, her skills are today showcased in high color in wall paintings, ceramics, and glass.
Through her creative designs, Sherhan seeks to infuse character and joy into food dishes, attracting the eye and delighting the soul. The pure white of the plates inspires her to create cheerful graphics full of bright colors, each taking around three hours to make one piece.
Sherhan rose to the challenge of finding the vibrantly colored paints used in her pieces, by learning to create and mix her own colors, maintaining the high quality and unique designs that she strives to provide. Sherhan aspires to earn financially from her craft, and develop herself and her skills from continued practice.
