Jordan / Irbid

Huda Jabr lives in Irbid along Syria’s southern border, which she crossed as she fled the war that was raging in in her home city of Daraa. The violence forced her to move south with her husband and two children to Jordan. When they arrived in Irbid, Huda quickly realized that she could not stay in the house without doing any work. So, she started looking for specialized associations in Irbid, which give workshops or training that teach skills needed to pursue a profession that can bring financial return. Eventually, Huda was able to find a specialized training center, which she immediately joined, focusing on the skills of making soap and wax until they were able to develop. With these new skills, Huda launched her own small project in 2017, which helped sell larger quantities of products and expand the scope of their work over time. However, Huda is faced with the problem of rising prices of raw materials and weak marketing.

The Challenges

Huda Jabr lives in Irbid along Syria’s southern border, which she crossed as she fled the war that was raging in in her home city of Daraa. The violence, along with the instability of the country, forced her to move south with her husband and two children to Jordan. However, Huda is faced with the problem of rising prices of the raw materials and weak marketing. Having survived the war and its woes, Huda knows she can withstand all these obstacles and is seeking to further develop her abilities and skills to reach a greater number of people.

Impact of work

What makes Huda’s products distinctive is that they are made entirely of natural materials and extracts. When asked about each type, Huda describes in detail the quantity of oils used in each soap, along with the positive effects of each type of smell or usefulness to the skin. She makes each with natural fiber, and even utilizes the natural colors used to color food, which are extracted from nature and suitable for food consumption, as well.

Huda speaks joyfully about the impact that her work leaves on her. She says that she feels that she has filled a large emptiness with the useful work that earns her a material income and teaches her new skills as a result of the feedback from customers or friends regarding form or packaging and possibly smells and oils. Huda, despite the features of shyness on her face, is a woman that people look to with respect and appreciation due to her self-reliance, which gives her a great motivation to move towards further development.
