With the aim of supporting Syrian women artisans, Souq Fann, in collaboration with Syria Livelihoods Program (SLP), funded by USAID, trained and mentored women artisans in Malikiyah City in Northeast Syria.

Through the training, these women produced intricate designs through which they were able to create a path to a sustainable income and improved livelihoods conditions.

These products are a reflection of the hard work and dedication that these women artisans have put into their craft, although they were faced with many challenges including not having money to buy materials or equipment, combined with the horrors of the conflict, they have endured, preserved, and made sure that they reflected that in their products. Out of those ambitions, the "Syrian Touches" brand was born to be a mark of resilience and perseverance of these women.

Through Syrian Touches, we present you with handicrafts made by Syrian women who have turned their hardships into opportunities and their tribulations into triumphs."

Dhuiyana Store

Dhuiyana Mustafa is an accessories maker and a mother of five whose passion for her craft began while she was in high school. Initially, she began designing and producing wall hangers for vases using macramé threads, but later she expanded her focus to include jewelry and accessories because macramé was not abundantly available in her area.

Dhuiyana’s products go through many stages in their creation.  Each and every piece begins with a drawing and design on paper, before Dhuiyana chooses the most appropriate design in terms of shape and size, and finally selects the perfect stitch for each design. Then, she begins crafting the items using micro-macramé threads, beads and loops to add a unique touch to each piece. Finally, Dhuiyana submits each piece to rigorous testing by her daughters, and may add some final touches before introducing it to the market.

During her career, Dhuiyana has overcome shyness and stress, and developed her self-confidence, which has helped her meet the multifarious challenges in entering the craft market as a strong competitor. Dhuiyana is eager to establish her own project to be a source of income for her family.
